File an effective complaint.

Step-by-step instructions for reporting unwanted calls to the FCC, FTC, your carrier, and your state Attorney General.

FCC Consumer Complaint

  1. 01Go to consumercomplaints.fcc.gov and choose Phone.
  2. 02Enter your info, the caller's number, and the date/time of the call.
  3. 03Describe the call: prerecorded, live, silent, or text. Note if you never gave consent.
  4. 04Attach screenshots or recordings if you have them.
  5. 05Submit — you'll get a confirmation and the FCC forwards it to the carrier and caller.

FTC ReportFraud

  1. 01Go to reportfraud.ftc.gov.
  2. 02Report the unwanted call as a telemarketing or scam complaint.
  3. 03Include the number, what was said, and any money or info requested.
  4. 04The FTC uses these reports to build enforcement targets.

Your phone carrier

  1. 01Report spoofing and scam calls to your carrier's fraud line.
  2. 02Ask about free call-labeling (Scam Likely) and call-block tools.
  3. 03Carriers must support STIR/SHAKEN call authentication.

State Attorney General

  1. 01Find your state AG at naag.org/find-your-ag.
  2. 02Many states have mini-TCPA laws with their own complaint process.
  3. 03File a consumer-protection complaint for violations of state law.
What to include

Every complaint is stronger with: the exact caller ID number, date and time, whether the call was live or prerecorded, what was said or asked, whether you ever gave consent, and any saved recordings or screenshots. Gather these in the Evidence Vault first.
